This type of bond which is chemical generates two oppositely charged ions. the ions bonds are mostly metal and the metal will always lose electrons to become a positive chargers cation while non metals accepts the electrons to become negative charged anions. For example the bond I chose was oxygen and calcium which makes the bond Calcium-Oxide. Calcium gives two valence electrons that it has to oxygen to become a cation. This will add two more valence electrons to Oxygens 6 existing valence electrons to turn into an anion with 8 total valence electrons.

Atoms bond and become ionic by the transfer of the valence electrons between the elements atoms.
